This scan is provided to confirm that you are pregnant, to estimate the gestational age, and to confirm whether it is a single or multiple pregnancy.
The term "Gestation" refers to the period between the conception and the birth of the baby (foetus), during which time it develops and grows inside the mother's womb.ave the same meaning.
The "Gestational Age" is the time measured from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period to present. It is measured in weeks and days. Note: This is the traditional means of counting the age of the pregnancy. It does not suggest you actually became pregnant on the first day of your last period.

The Crown-Rump-Length (CRL) is the length of your baby from the top of it's head to it's bottom.
In order to get the best possible visualisation of the baby, a trans-vaginal internal scan may be performed.
At this age, the fetus is very small and it is not possible to determine the sex of the baby and only very major abnormalities would be visualised.
In most Pregnancy ultrasound examinations, the scan will show the developing baby and will reassure you that all is well. It is an unfortunate fact, however, that sometimes pregnancy complications arise resulting in a failiure of the pregnancy. This can be completely unexpected and without warning and requires us to be the bearers of the worst kind of bad news. In such circumstances, we will ensure you have time and support to process the information and to receive whatever medical care is required.
